All About Jamestown

Welcome to Jamestown!

Mrs. Witherow's 1st gradeAt Jamestown, our mission is to educate all children in an optimal learning environment, preparing them for success now and in the future. The staff implements a rich and rigorous academic curriculum at every grade level and an exemplary project, Project Quest, the quest for excellence.

Project Quest is a school-wide process to ensure continuous school improvement in teaching and learning. Teachers incorporate the Baldridge Criteria for Excellence in providing a rigorous academic program infused with instruction in multiple intelligences and technology currently focused on developing skills in writing. Students become actively engaged in their learning and empowered to reach their highest potential.

Grade level Professional Learning Communities analyze student work and compile data that drives instructional programming. Students design their own learning plans, setting goals and recording their progress, and conduct class meetings. High percentages of students pass the SOL tests with many scoring in the advanced range. The Jamestown Leadership Team plans designs professional development opportunities for the staff.

The students are engaged in a strong school-wide writing program based on the Writing Workshop model. The Instructional Technology Coordinator and teachers design a wide variety of instructional practices to enhance the reading, writing, and math curricula through the use of technology. In partnership with the Smithsonian Institute, the students have developed podcasts for visitors to guide them through the museums in Washington DC.

Community members and parents are actively involved in the
total school program. Volunteers support and collaborate with the staff in a variety of ways:  the annual poetry journal, Junior Great Books, the Schoolyard Habitat, and before and after school programs for the children. The investment of all stakeholders in the learning process helps to enrich and ensure the success of every child at Jamestown.

Vision Statement

At Jamestown Elementary School students are actively engaged in challenging learning experiences. Instruction is interactive and meaningful. The staff displays a variety of student work and provides the resources to support and enhance the learning process. All members of the Jamestown Community work together to support school goals. Students, staff and community work together as lifelong learners, continuing to grow as productive, caring, and self-reliant citizens.

Jamestown Goals

* To have no gap in achievement between identified groups
*To implement school experiences that will be responsive to each student’s talents, interests and challenges
* To build effective relationships with the parents and the community so that they know about and can actively support the education of our students
